I wake up in pitch darkness. I am in the basement and there are no windows. I am at my aunts house in Lahore, Pakistan for the next few days as I look for an apartment. I get up and look at my phone and check the time. It’s 5 am. I grab my backpack that holds my busted up laptop and modem and I head upstairs and plug it all in.
I check my email and see a message that says I have received a new bid for an elance project I am doing regarding making a custom word press site. It is for my line of Muay Thai and MMA gear called Somchai and the bidder is from Thailand. Too perfect. The bid is for 200 dollars, but I manage to negotiate it down to 175 with the guarantee that I will use the provider again if I like their work.
Now that I have that out of the way it’s time for the real work. Training for Fite Selektor. I go downstairs turn on the light and kick my cousin, who is sleeping on the floor. He’s a skinny kid from L.A trying to break into the Pakistani Hip Hop industry but for the next 2 hours he is my time keeper.
We have had the same routine for the past three days ever since we found out that the Dubai based MMA promotion Fite Selektor was coming to Pakistan. I Wake up, head out the door to the local park grabbing some breakfast on the way from the local bakery. Its 6 am and the smog is thick. The Punjab has morning fog in the winter time and the terrible pollution turns into a thick poisonous mess. Not the most ideal conditions to train in. We cross the road avoiding the Looney Tunes traffic that defines South Asia, multi-colored buses with obnoxious horns, bicyclists, motor cycles and donkeys mixed in with the flood of cars so beat up they look like that they were made out of paper mache.
I could not believe that Fite Selektor was coming to Pakistan. In fact the minute we heard about it, I paid no heed that it was 9 pm and grabbed my running shoes and went for a run. This was too perfect. The timing was impeccable. I was hoping that with the elance contest I could have money to invest in my businesses so I could concentrate on training. But no luck with that one. I will most definitely need to find some projects to work on the side to pad my expenses, After getting an apartment I will down to about 1,000 dollars. Yikes. It’s ok though. I have faith in myself and my creator and that alone shall show me the path best for me.
So regardless that I didn’t win I will keep going forward with this blog to show you how elance and other technologies that exist on the internet can help you live the life you choose. It’s the New Way to Work.
